Les Sables d’Olonne is one of the most famous towns in the Vendée, famous both for its beaches and for the Vendée Globe. The city is about an hour away from Camping Les Violettes.

The large beach, known as the most beautiful beach in Europe, awaits you for a moment of relaxation and lies on 3 km of fine sand. If you feel like a sportsman, go to the beach of Tanchet, a meeting place for water sports enthusiasts. At the edge of the forest, the beaches of Ganges and Sauveterre offer you a natural moment.

The island has a rich heritage: rediscover the 1930s with the Remblai district or Le Passage located between the quays of the Port and the city centre to immerse yourself in the atmosphere of the seaside with typical fishermen’s houses.

But the most surprising is the Penotte Island district, located in the centre of Les Sables d’Olonne. An artist, Mrs Arnaud-Aubin, decorates the walls of each house with frescoes and mosaics in shells. Known as the lady with the shell, and with the support of the inhabitants and the town hall, she turned the area into a real museum.

Let’s not forget the mythical Vendée race, which takes place every 4 years in Les Sables. This famous single-handed round-the-world race is the only race in the world without assistance and without stopovers.
