Its nickname of Porte Océane comes from the fact that La Rochelle is a port city, with its 4 fishing, commercial and pleasure ports.

It is first and foremost a historic city: stroll through the arcades, visit the bunker museum, discover naval history with the maritime museum, and admire the architecture of the city centre. On the way, pass under the famous big clock, to arrive at the old port and have a drink on the terrace in one of the many cafés of the port. Visit the district of St Jean du Perot and admire the two towers, where the Red Bull Cliff Diving is based.

But the main attraction in La Rochelle is of course the Aquarium. For 2 hours, dive into the ocean with more than 12,000 marine animals: sharks, jellyfish, turtles, clown fish, scorpion fish, anemones, nautilus … It is one of the largest private aquariums in Europe. After all these emotions, go to the terrace above the aquarium and admire the beauty of the Ocean Gate.

Walking, cycling and even horse riding are all welcome in La Rochelle. The city centre and its arcades are waiting for you to stroll around. Many shops are at your disposal: local products, bookshops, clothes, jewellery, … are there to make you fall in love. Remember to take a break, and enjoy an ice cream at the famous Ernest ice cream parlour.

Finally, a relaxing break on the warm sand with the 3 beaches of the city. The beach of La Concurrence is ideal for fishing and lounging. The Minimes beach, located next to the famous Minimes port, is the largest beach in the city. There are summer shops, restaurants and a long walk along the bay. Finally, the beach of Chef de Baie is certainly the most pleasant for a swim, sheltered from the wind and covered with fine sand
